چکیده
Abstract In the last decades, several tsunamis hit international coasts and engaged scientific awareness to retrofit of coastal buildings against tsunami loads. Structural design under loads is difficult due high uncertainties phenomenon. Local collapse mechanisms masonry walls, like as out plane mechanisms, have an probability flexural actions; a higher capacity can be reached using specific systems; in particular, this paper aims deepen behavior walls retrofitted with innovative systems natural fibers applied inorganic mortar matrices. The structures actions could research topic for community dealing located areas characterized by risk. Recent engineering applications demonstrated strengthening effective existing buildings. These are great interest practical low costs their sustainability. fact, lower compared synthetic allow diffusion emerging countries. first part impact constituents on structural elements strengthened has been discussed. Important results provided order improve knowledge encourage development these many applications. Finally, effects will discussed terms critical inundation depth variations before after interventions.

A thin layer of ductile fiber-reinforced mortar material referred to as Engineered Cementitious Composites, or ECC has been experimentally investigated as a seismic retrofit for unreinforced masonry infill walls in non-ductile reinforced concrete frames. Compression tests of masonry prisms retrofitted with 13mm of ECC were conducted representing the compression strut of a masonry infill under i...
متن کاملRetrofitting Masonry Walls with Carbon Mesh
Static-cyclic shear load tests and tensile tests on retrofitted masonry walls were conducted at UAS Fribourg for an evaluation of the newly developed retrofitting system, the S&P ARMO-System. This retrofitting system consists of a composite of carbon mesh embedded in a specially adapted high quality spray mortar. It can be applied with established construction techniques using traditional const...
متن کاملHomogenization of Interlocking Masonry Walls
In a previous publication the authors proposed a continuous model for describing the mechanical behaviour of ‘Running Bond’ masonry walls. Here a different masonry structure is considered. This structure is ‘bi-atomic’ in the sense that its pattern consists in two kind of blocks with different. The homogenization by differential expansions technique is used for obtaining an equivalent Cosserat ...
متن کاملMulti-scale analysis of masonry walls
Masonry is a heterogeneous structural material which exhibits a complex behaviour with potential cracking in each of its phases. Its structure (geometrical arrangement of mortar joints, quasi-brittle constituents) causes the appearance of complex composite failure modes with loading path dependence and strong damage-induced anisotropy effects. Large scale computations for masonry structures req...
